Customer Rating:      Summary: First encounter?? Comment: This was my first encounter with any pressure cooker, so I thought my review could be helpful. When discussing it with others, the same old concerns are still being verbalized (hissing, explosions etc.). Never fear; using this product has been a fun experience combined with good cooking outcomes. It's easy to clean; easy to take apart and put back together.
Never leave it unattended and try recipes with a thin base (broth, water) for starters to avoid scorching the bottom of the cooker. I have an electric stove, so I needed to learn to use the heat levels correctly with the pressure cooker. Once the second orange ring starts to appear, it's time to reduce the heat in increments from medium to the lowest level. I've cooked short ribs on the lowest heat setting for 25 minutes with great results (falling-off-the-bone good).
My old electric slow cooker went south last winter so I wanted to try something new. A pressure cooker allows for more recipe variety. For example; teriaki chicken legs in 6.5 minutes---additional under-the- broiler time for a little crisping and you're done! Rice pudding (in a pan on the trivet which is included along with a vegie steamer) has become a favorite. Fresh corn on the cob placed on the trivet (3 ears in this size cooker---I was afraid to over-fill) for 3 minutes and then quick release was the best tasting ever. It did not burn the roof of my mouth because there was no boiling water in it. Additionally very little nutrients were lost in the steaming water.
Another positive is that I suspect I might be saving on electricity because of shortened cooking times. Haven't had a new bill, as of yet, to be sure.
The WMF Perfect Plus 6 1/2 qt is a good size cooker to start with, unless you plan to prepare a big roast or a whole turkey (or more ears of corn at one time---see above). In that case, size up.
Using this cooker has re-vitalized my enthusiasm for cooking. There are about 30 recipes I've highlighted which I expect to try over the coming winter months. I'm looking forward to it!!

It is also a decent size to cook stuff that requires longer cook time and work. We are very satisfied with this pressure cooker. My mom wants one now, but the non-sale price is a bit high.
Customer Rating:      Summary: Pleased as punch! Comment: I've always had a pressure cooker in my home ever since I was a child. It is a standard issue pot for island people. It was so important to me that when asked by co-workers what I wanted when I got my first full-time job after university, I requested a... pressure cooker. I was quite happy with it for eight years until I lost the weight during my moving process two years ago. It took forever to get it replaced (laziness on my part - I would block the hole with foil!) and it was a big spill on Oscar night this year that led me to finding a replacement.
All stores in my area had only one brand, including T-Fal (which I thought was expensive) and some no-name brands. I researched and finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a WMF as people went crazy about the quality (I did not remember much else about the reviews). I've had it for a few weeks and have circled it with great curiosity and distrust as it did not have the weight, the staple of any decent pressure cooker I've known!
I finally tried it yesterday. I abhor (for want of a stronger word) reading manuals and thought I'd "wing" it; after all, a pressure cooker is indeed a pressure cooker! I started second-guessing my decision as I could not fathom how it could work without the weight and that "steaming" sound that I'd grown to love when my mother was cooking since I was a child. I eventually had to read the manual (more thoroughly so when it started making that otherworldly sound) and realized that I needed to turn the heat down. I was using the 16,000 btu burner on my stove. I turned the burner right down but the sound persisted. I began downgrading to the next level and then the next, the last being a 5,000 btu burner. I left it at low(!) and the humming finally did not return. I was by this time thinking that something was wrong with the pot! There was no noise, no steam (the manual did say that, but surely, no decent pressure cooker can work without steam!), no nothing. I was very tired, so I pulled it off the burner after 20 minutes (I kept my old pressure cooker going for 1/2 hour on the strongest burner when it still had the weight) deciding to cut my losses. Well, who woulda thought, I'd overcooked my food!
The thing works like a charm and on very low heat too!! I was not happy about that and had to kick myself for the amount of liquid remaining in the pot! I'd maintained the portions that I'd used when my old pot was functioning well, and it proved to be way too much! Let me tell you, I placed a long-distance call to my mother to tell her of this wonder! She is already lining one up. Amazing technology, I say!!
Customer Rating:      Summary: This is the bomb! Or rather NOT a bomb... Comment: I've never used a pressure cooker before. I had scary memories of a clanking, hissing monster in a German cook's kitchen. But the monster brought forth the best soup I'd ever tried, in very short order.
So I bit the bullet this year and after careful consideration of the alternatives, bought the WMF cooker. I've used their stainless and know them to be good.
This is one of the best kitchen aids I've ever purchased. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and it is preternaturally quiet. I watched fascinated as a small hiss from the front of the pot was abruptly cut off as a tiny ball bearing blocked the valve. Then a very large and easy to read indicator rose out of the handle to indicate pressure. Most of the barley soup was cooked with the flame actually off, since the well made and insulated pot didn't need a constant flame to maintain pressure. So I made a terrific soup in 20 minutes and didn't use a lot of energy to do so.
After the soup was finished I immediately gave away a very large steamer with an insert that weighed three pounds more; the WMF is such a high quality pot that it's possible to use it in the other capacities such as boiling and steaming foodstuffs. I think that I will get the alternative lid so that it's easier to do this.
The WMF cooker is a terrific buy. The 6.5 quart size is just right, too; large but not overpowering.
