Comment: I have been using a Le Creuset Doufeu (round and oval) for many years and cannot imagine a finer utensil for slow cooking stews. The doufeu maintains liquid and cleans up in a breeze. It's quite heavy and while that may be a negative for some it uses it's mass to retain the heat and cook on a lower than usual flame. If you are comfortable with the weight and the price - go for it and enjoy the best - and surely you will pass it to your children and they to theirs.

Comment: I am a huge fan of Le Creuset cookware. I have owned a duofeu oven for about 2 years. Foods maintain their flavors even though you may be cooking a one pot meal. You use less liquids for braising or stewing so sauces have deeper, more intense flavor. A cup of ice cubes in the top and you are self basting to unbeatable goodness. Although, when the ice cubes are not needed, I have been known to bake potatoes on the top. Use moderate heat when cooking. Cleans easily. Can be used on stovetop.

The rugged cast-iron doufeu from Le Creuset has a surprise: the top of its lid is recessed in order to hold ice cubes. As a roast beef or chicken bakes inside the doufeu, hot steam hits the cold lid and condensation forms. Textured with dimples, the underside of the lid drips the moisture back into the pot for basting, resulting in rich, flavorful juices and very tender meat. You may need to replenish the ice cubes as baking progresses. The enameled doufeu is durable enough to use on any stovetop burner or in the oven, and is handsome enough to serve directly at the table.

Le Creuset is known for suffusing the exterior of its products with bright, modern colors, while keeping a more neutral tone on the interior to showcase the cuisine.
